Palos Verdes Estates

About Palos Verdes Estates

Reminiscent of the French Riviera, Palos Verdes Estates is the gem of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Incorporated in 1939, it is the oldest of the four cities located within the peninsula.  Highly regarded for designing Central Park in New York City, the visionary Olmsted Brothers brought Palos Verdes to life through their brilliant landscaping and design, with their ultimate intention of making Palos Verdes a planned, residential community. Fast-forward to today, the city is characterized by green hillsides, winding roads and lush eucalyptus, pepper, and coral trees.

Many of the homes have “Queen’s Necklace” views, overlooking Redondo Beach all the way to Malibu. There are five specific areas in Palos Verdes Estates: Valmonte, Monte Malaga, Malaga Cove, Margate and Lunada Bay.

Residents have their choice of high schools, either Palos Verdes High School in Palos Verdes Estates (Lunada Bay), or the larger Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, located in adjacent Rolling Hills Estates.

  • Palos Verdes Estates is the only city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula to maintain their own Police Department.

  • Wild peacocks inhabit the areas around the Malaga Cove Library and can sometimes be seen blocking traffic.

  • The Cove, a famous surf break in Lunada Bay, is said to have been the birthplace of surfing in California. Many compare the waves to Waikiki Beach!
