First known as a summer escape from Los Angeles and Pasadena in the early 1900’s, Manhattan Beach was where early Angelenos purchased a beach cottage as their second home. Known for its beautiful sand dune beaches, strand bike path and spectacular pier, Manhattan Beach is the spot for the most popular high-end restaurants, great shopping, newly built outdoor malls, family parks, and some of the best nightlife in the South Bay. There are various sections including: the Sand Section, Tree Section, Manhattan Village, East Manhattan, and the Hill Section.
This is one of the closest beach cities to LAX which is only 5 miles away.
The city was named after the famous Manhattan, New York in 1901.
